during a discussion on the problems in education, it always amazes me to listen to people absolve teachers of any responsibility.  coming from the houston independent school district, it was clear that not only were kids, parents, and the administration responsible for problems within, but so were teachers.  nothing gets my ire up quicker than to hear someone say, “i’ll always err on the side of the teacher”.  there’s just too much evidence of wrongdoing by teachers to do so.  but, it seems, like police officers, they will ever support their own.  you hear how parents should just be more involved.  fix the district!  nevermind that most parents (even those active) feel they have very little voice in districts as large as say, hisd.  there’s always the smooth pat answer from people who really do NOT have a fuckin’ clue.

nevermind the teachers arrested for pedophilia or those selling/dealing/doing drugs with students or those who physically abused kids… some teachers are just bullies.  “everyone has a bad teacher story"… as if somehow that makes it okay.  a teacher with a bad student will continue on the next year.  the effect is much less than the student with the bad teacher.  you’re only doing that grade / class one time (hopefully) and your experience in that class is going to remain with you.

my own experience?
