"it's easy to go through life putting people down because they're different than you, but no matter who you are or where you're from, we all enter this world the same: when we're born, we're naked, covered in blood, and screaming in terror… and that sort of thing doesn't have to stop there if you know how to live right... - dana gould, funhouse"

Short film by Dutch movie maker Theo van Gogh in association with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The film deals with the oppression of women in many Muslim countries. Van Gogh was killed by a Muslim fanatic in 2004 because of the film.  Ayaan Hirsi Ali is planning the second part of the film.

“Submission” is the translation of the Arabic word “Islam”.

Medium Image

so far, i’m really enjoying it, tho i’ve enjoyed every book i’ve read by kurt vonnegut.  the same dark wit that i’ve always enjoyed, but there’s a sadness to it: knowing this is his last book, it reads almost like a deathbed confession—a message he felt the need to impart before it was too late.  reminds me of how i felt when reading douglas adams’ the salmon of doubt.  ~last book ever~ from one of my favorite authors.

one of my favorite passages:

how do humanists feel about jesus?  i say of jesus, as all humanists do, “if what he said is good, and so much of it is absolutely beautiful, what does it matter if he was god or not?”

but if christ hadn’t delivered the sermon on the mount, with its message of mercy and pity, i wouldn’t want to be a human being.

i’d just as soon be a rattlesnake.

people have asked me about my belief in god and i really have no answer.  it’s something i’ve yet to decide upon for myself.  until that time, and probably even beyond, vonnegut’s answer is probably the best.
